Who we are

Kenneth and groupThe North Highland Forest Trust was established in 1999 to promote sustainable management of woodlands in Northern Scotland for the benefit of local people.

  • We are a charitable company limited by guarantee, governed by our voluntary Board of Directors and we're responsible to a membership comprising groups and individuals from across the North.

  • We promote new woodland creation and restoration of existing woodlands, by supporting community groups, individuals and common grazings with site surveys, costed proposals and assistance with funding applications.

  • We aim to promote a "wood culture" in the North through the above work and by supporting networks of community woodland groups and wood users through our publications, annual forum and training events.

Who can we help?
We are keen to hear from groups and individuals who wish to become involved in woodland management, establishment or timber utilisation. We will always try to give advice or assistance. However, priority is given to those projects which produce an appropriate balance of benefits for local biodiversity, economy and community.
