Strathy Log Building Course: November 12th - 16th 2001

The project aimed to create an information building and toilet facility within the community of Strathy providing local heritage information, info on the availability of B+B, hotels, sites of interest, camp sites, etc. The structure of the building was a scribed log build made from locally sourced timber and erected “green”. The design incorporates shrinkage and seasoning of the timber in such a way that as this process takes place the building effectively knits more tightly together. The power source incorporates a small wind turbine and solar panels.

The photographs were taken during a training course in scribe log building techniques which took place 12th-16th November.

This project is managed by Strathy Bay Environmental Action Group, in partnership with CASE, Initiative at the Edge and North Highland Forest Trust.
