The North Aspen Woods Survey 2008/9
The report has been compiled and is available through the links below. The bulk of the survey was undertaken in late 2008 and early 2009 by Consultant Forester and Forest Ecologist Dr Scott McG Wilson. Thanks too are due to our funders who made this initiative possible. This project is one of the 24 being undertaken in Highland with assistance from the Highland Biodiversity Partnership. It is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Highland Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and RSPB Scotland.

Woodland Crofts - National Forest Land Scheme
Provision for the creation of new crofts including woodland crofts is outlined in the Crofting Reform Act 2007 and this is an important development for crofting counties of Sutherland and Caithness. Forestry Commission Scotland have now issued new guidance providing an opportunity for communities to buy national forest land. A woodland croft can range from being mainly woodland to mainly agricultural with a woodland element.
