Woodland Establishment
NHFT assists community groups and individuals with new woodland establishment and regeneration projects.
Following an approach by an interested party, we arrange a meeting, preferably on-site, to discuss the project and the objectives of the potential applicant. If practical we would then aim to produce a site survey report and costed proposals to meet the objectives of the proposer, and give advice on funding.
Since 1993, NHFT, and its forerunner the North West Sutherland Native Woodland Project, have carried forward over 115 WGS (Woodland Grant Scheme), SFGS (Scottish Forestry Grant Scheme) and SRDP (Scottish Rural Development Programme) Rural Priorities projects, covering a total of more than 2000 hectares and representing total grant aid of over £4 million.
Individual schemes range in size from 0.45 hectare to over 100 hectares; the majority of new planting schemes have been for new native woodlands, however, we are happy to assist with plans for the establishment of any combination of species.
