Pittentrail Grazings Pittentrail Hill Grazing comprise the hills immediately to the north of Pittentrail and overlooks the Lower Fleet Valley. Before the days of modern transport, they were crossed regularly by people taking a shortcut to the village or by children walking to school. These footpaths are now sadly neglected, underused and almost forgotten. The grazings committee invite people to use these old pathways and to enjoy the hill, with its fine views and solitude. The main footpath has been made into an access road for crofters, this can now also be used for walking, horse riding or mountain biking, we invite people to use it for these purposes.
The easiest access is on the Reidehalmine road immediately past the county salt dump on the way up to St Callan's church - there is parking a short distance up this roadway. Access to the south end is from the old road to the west of Tordarroch, this old roadway can be a lovely extension to the walk. You can wander anywhere on the hill as long as the standard access code is observed and dogs do not disturb grazing sheep. In winter time cattle might be on the hill. The footpaths have been identified by colour markers and main access points are signposted. There is an old birch wood to the north of the grazings, it is currently fenced off for a regeneration project, but access can be made by gate or stile and people are invited to walk through it, as long as they shut the gate. Guided walks of the woodland can be organised on request. Contact: john@macd25.fsnet.co.uk For more information about Rogart and Pittentrail - www.rogart.org.uk
